Good news from Slovenia and Croatia2009/09/13
This friday the Slovenian Prime Minister announced that Slovenia will lift its veto against EU accession of Croatia over the two countries’ dispute on the border in the Adriatic Sea. Talks on settling the dispute will, however, continue with international mediation, but today’s agreement means that Croatia and the European Union can move forward with accession negotiations. Both Prime Ministers have shown leadership and courage in this decision and it gives an important signal to the whole region where there are a lot of different bilateral unresolved problems.
This agreement between Prime Ministrers Pahor and Kosor is welcomed as very good news by the Swedish presidency, as it will pave the way for moving forward and catching up with negotiations with Croatia.
