Germany ready with homework2009/09/21
It seems like we are one obstacle less from the Lisbon Treaty. The two parliamentary chambers in Germany have now made the final decisions on the Treaty and German legislation. Only the signature of the President is now missing and that should not take too long I think.
The referendum in Ireland is in only two weeks and the debate is really heating up now. So far the Yes-side is leading but in referendum campaigns things can change quickly and one should not take anything for granted.
If the Irish vote yes we still lack the signatures of the Presidents in Poland and in the Czech republic. In Prague we also have a group of senators who are planning to send the whole Treaty – again – the the Constitutional Court. We are up for some suspense this fall and soon we will have to apoint a new Commission. With or without Lisbon…
